Tips on Using These Mushroom Growing BagsThese bags are sterile but they can be contaminated during handling. Wear nitrile gloves and a face mask when handling the bags. Also, disinfect the work area where you need to prepare the grow bags. If you are using a pressure cooker (PC) to sterilize your substrate, ensure that the bags don't have direct contact to the surface of the pressure cooker. Direct contact with a heated surface, under pressure can cause the bags to deform or burst. It is advisable to not pre-seal the mushroom grow bags during the sterilization process. This will only increase the chances of the bag bursting especially if you are using a pressure cooker.
You'll need to seal the bags immediately right after sterilization, though. This is to prevent outside air from contaminating the growing medium. Impulse sealers will provide a better and a more consistent seal. Do not melt or cut holes on the mushroom grow bags to spawn the substrate inside. All you need to do is tape a small part of the side of the bag opposite the filter patch and inject the spawn or liquid culture through the tape and directly to the substrate. To seal the injection hole, all you need to do is to tape the hole over. You can also reuse the hole for injecting water in the event of the substrate drying out.
Just ensure that the hole is resealed properly with tape
